Our school programmes are available to all students aged 8 and over.
With basic instruction we can have people sailing almost immediately but there is always scope to hone skills to maximise the performance of the craft. We have 10 single blokarts and 30 sails for the varying wind conditions, sailor size and ability. Blokarts are easily sailed by people with disabilities, eg: paraplegics compete in the open events at World Champs. This may open new doors for some students.
After School Sessions: 3:45 to 5 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays
Treat Yourself to an After School Blast!
You'll learn all about blokart landyachts, including rigging, wind, how to sail and racing. Full safety instructions are given and groups are limited to 10. You'll have a minimum of 45 minutes sailing time on track each week. Blokart sailing is an exhilerating sport and easy to learn for everyone.
Book 6 sessions during any school term. Send us an email with your age and preferred time and we'll match you with the programme best suited to you. Better still - get a group together and learn blokart sailing with your friends.
Other Info: Bring your own water bottle, and wear warm clothes and covered shoes or sneakers. Velocity Karts will provide helmets and safety gloves.
Secondary School Sports: Every Wednesday Terms 1 to 4
Blokart sailing is now an international sport. Our goal is to hold the Canterbury Secondary Schools blokart sailing championship in the future. To do this we will need to build a group of interested and enthusiastic sailors.
Blokarts allow students to experiment with wind and sailing dynamics. Begin by mastering the art of maneuvering around a simple course that includes tacking, jibing and running with the wind. Once the basics have been covered progress to competitive sailing and hone your skills all the way to international standard. As well as sailing you'll be taught to rig, derig and safety check the landyachts and along the way you'll pick up the blokart vocabulary.
We can easily work with groups of up to 15 students at a time. Each session is 1 hour and each participant will get up to 3 races of approximately 15 minutes. Times can be negotiable but must be prebooked for a minimum of 4 sessions.
The activity will be managed by Velocity Karts staff with a ratio of 1 staff member to 5 saling students on the track. Up to 10 people will sail at any time. No parental or teacher input is required but any assistance will be welcome. Risk Assessment Management Systems are in place.
All safety gear is provided, however students should bring a water bottle, and wear warm clothes and covered shoes or sneakers.
